How to Use Mindset Trainings

💡
Just like physical skills, your mental skills must be trained. Think of this area as the weightroom for your mental game. The trainings cover topics that may be impacting your performance. You will work through these trainings in a very bouncy order. Use what you need. Leave what you don't need. Do not feel like you need to complete all the trainings. Only do what is of interest to you at the time. NOTE: These trainings are not meant to substitute for individual mental performance coaching. They are to be used as self-study to broaden understanding of the scientific framework for sport psychology and/or as enhancements to private mental performance coaching.

Each training will have four sections to it. Once you start a training, follow each of the steps to learn more about it.

Step 1: Overview- this step will teach you the basic sport psychology concepts surrounding that topic. There is always much more material than is provided on these trainings, but they will give you a good foundation of understanding.

Step 2: Performance Impacts- this step explains how the topic enhances or inhibits performance. If you are in these trainings, you probably already have some idea how the topic has impacted your performance.

Step 3: Strategies to Pivot- this step gives you a short list of techniques sport psychology researchers have found to address the topic. This will be a list of ideas on how to pivot your mental game.

Step 4: Training Questions- this step challenges you to think more personally and deeply about the topic and reflect on your past performances, strategies you are willing to try, and your goals in this area. To complete this step, we highly recommend that you start a Mental Performance Log where you will make notes about your mental game after each practice, game, or training at Pivot.
